There are many events in the life of Our Lord and His Blessed Mother that are worthy of meditation. The Rosary selects 20 of these incidents and puts them into sets of five decades. There are four sets of "Mysteries" of the Rosary (Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious) and one mystery or decade comprises one Our Father, ten Hail Mary's and one Glory Be followed by the prayer requested by Our Lady at Fatima.
